The CFMEU Stitch Up

The CFMEU is under fire, but our commitment to our members remains unwavering. We’re here to protect your rights, negotiate fair EBAs, and ensure your safety.

Despite the distractions, business as usual means putting our members first.

The allegations highlighted by Channel Nine’s 60 Minutes program ‘Building Bad’ are just that, allegations.

The media is trawling through history because they do not have a shred of credible evidence about crime or corruption within this union – as supported by the findings from two Royal Commissions in 2006 and 2014.

This has been a trial by media, overshadowing the principle of ‘innocent until proven guilty.’ Despite two taxpayer-funded Royal Commissions, NO evidence of corruption was found.

What the media reports vs.
What we actually do

Since this media stitch up, the Labor Government has panicked. They moved to dismantle our Union and take blue collar worker’s rights away without a care in the world.

It took just five minutes for the Fair Work Commission to submit an application to remove CFMEU leadership, yet some have been waiting years to clear their names! This double standard is unacceptable.

Corruption was rife in the two big supermarkets, our national airline and big banks, with allegations proven true, however no administrators were brought in. Yet in a matter of days with no credible evidence other than sensationalised media headlines, none of which have been afforded due process, a basic right in any democracy, this Government is prepared to destroy a Union and sack member elected officials.

ALP Leaders Alabanese Watts and Minns are abandoning the working class

Labor abandoning the working class

During the pandemic, the CFMEU kept the construction industry running, ensuring economic stability. Now the Labor Government has turned it’s back on the people that saved them… while developers and big businesses profit.

The ALP, once a champion of the working class, has turned it’s back on hard working Aussies. Murray Watt, who once supported our members against the ABCC, now endorses undemocratic powers for the Fair Work Commission to seize union finances and dismiss elected officials. He has just opened the door for the Libs to reinstate the ABCC, what a sell out.

The Labor Government is weaponising historical penalties from the ABCC era to destabilise our Union. This isn’t about justice… they are undermining a strong, effective and proud Union.

The media often overlooks our victories, and prefers to spread eye-catching headlines. We’ve recovered unpaid wages, fought against shonky builders, and ensured fair wages and conditions for workers who put their lives on the line every day they go to work.

The ALP’s actions are clear. They prioritise power over people. They aim to wipe out union executives based on unproven media allegations.

Media vs. Reality

Over the past two years, workers wages have seen increases of 5%, while employer profits skyrocketed to 15%. It’s hypocritical to blame workers for cost blowouts when the real issues lie elsewhere, and the narrative of CFMEU members earning too much money is simply a stitch-up.

The media has continuously reported on fines the CFMEU has received over the last two decades, fuelling the narrative of criminal activity within the Union. They fail to mention that these fines were for protesting deaths on work sites, better safety conditions and fair wages for it’s members!

PLUS! The CFMEU recovered over $22M in unpaid wages for its members in 2023 alone!

The ABC has been going on and on about bikies infiltrating the CFMEU, yet they still employ an ex-Mongol… where was the uproar when this came to light?

Despite baseless allegations, our union continues to:

Despite the media trial and governmental attacks, the CFMEU remains committed to defending the working class. Our dedication to fairness, safety, and justice will not be undermined by baseless accusations and political kneejerks.

We see through the stitch-up and will continue to fight for what’s right.
